Warning Signs of a Scam:

• High-pressure sales tactics
• No physical address: Scammers often use generic names and do not have a real physical location.
• Unmarked Vehicles/No Uniforms
• No company name on the invoice, or a generic name different from the company you believe you called.
• Advertising for a FREE, or low cost initial fee. These frequently turn into a multi-thousand dollar repair.
• A claim that the entire system needs to be “Rebuilt”.
• Claim of a Lifetime Guarantee: Scammers charge an exorbitant price and justify this by offering a Lifetime Guarantee. They cannot be reached after they leave.
• Many phone calls, from different numbers, after you place the service call.
• Refusal to accept checks- Scammers demand cash or credit card only.  

How to Protect Yourself:

• DON'T PANIC! If your car is stuck in the garage and it's after our business hours, consider alternative  transportaion options. ie Ask a neighbor of family member for a ride, or hire an Uber. 
• Research first- DO NOT click on the "sponsored" Google search results- these are paid ads, mostly fraudulent, not local companies. Scroll down to the Maps section and below to find the legitimate local companies. Verify the company's address using Google Maps to make sure they have a real, local address. Make sure that the address claimed is what matches on their website. 
• Call a reputable company for another opinion. Check with friends and neighbors for referrals. 
• Get written estimates. A reputable company will not pressure you.
• Ask for credentials, like business license and proof of insurance. Verify the license at Myfloridalicense.com.
