TIPS FOR USING YOUR GARAGE DOOR AFTER A POWER SURGE OR OUTAGE

Power surges and outages can sometimes "confuse" the garage door opener circuit board. If your garge door opener will not function after power has been restored, try these tips:

1. Confirm that the garage door opener is engaged with the garage door if you have used the door manually.

2. Reset the garage door opener. (See directions below.)

HOW TO RESET YOUR GARAGE DOOR OPENER AFTER POWER OUTAGE

Genie:

  • Locate the ceiling outlet into which your garage door opener motor id plugged.
  • Unplug the garage door opener, wait about 5 seconds, then plug it back in.

This will reset the circuit board and your garage door should operate normally.

**Many brands of garage door openers can be reset by this method.**

Hoermann:

  • Press "T" button on garage door opener unit and wait for garage door to operate.

If that is unsuccessful, press button marked "reset" on the back of the garage door opener. It will be necessary to remove the gray cover just above the "T" button area. You will need a Phillips screwdriver.
